Dropping in for the Juniper part of the same number, the JNP-QSFP-40GE-ER4 matches the original as a 40G ER4 optic reaching 40km over single-mode fiber, so an extended-reach QSFP link carries over without redesign. Like-for-like on rate and reach, it keeps the existing span budget intact and asks nothing new of the topology. The ER4 build is meant for the longer 40G hops that outrun a short- or long-reach optic, and 40km of single-mode covers the inter-site distances those links typically run. Terminated in a duplex LC, it comes up on Juniper gear as a recognized module with no host configuration.
