This coarse-WDM optic rides a widely-spaced wavelength, so a handful of channels can share one fiber pair without the cooled, tightly-tuned lasers DWDM requires. It is the cost-effective route to multiplying capacity on access and aggregation links, pairing with passive CWDM mux/demux filters that need no power and no configuration. It operates reaching 40 km on the 1490 nm CWDM grid.
